Tips to Find the Perfect Restaurant

Finding a perfect restaurant is not as easy as it seems, especially when travelling to an unknown place. There are many pros and cons to weigh out when making this decision because one bad item or an unhygienic place can make your stomach go for a toss, ruining that perfectly planned holiday. Below mentioned are some tips to find the perfect restaurant when you are in uncharted territory.

Eat what you see – More often than not, if it smells good, it tastes good. Sometimes, it is ok to go with the flow, and if you see or smell something that you like, chances are, It will be good. Always go for cooked food as opposed to raw items like salads. Things with live counters are safer as you can see what is being made in front of you.

Word of mouth – Local guides, hotel staff and fellow tourists are your best option for recommendations. It is these personal experiences that can help you make an informed decision. Even online reviews can be very informative, and anything over a 3-star rating can be experimented with.

Cleanliness – By far, the most important aspect when choosing a place where your next meal will be at. If you spot dirty dishes, stained table cloths and creepy crawlies around, head for the hills. If they don’t even care to keep the customer section clean, you don’t even want to know what is happening inside the kitchen.

Despite the simple décor, the restaurant is clean, and the kitchen staff follows strict hygienic practices.

Other people anticipating the establishment of a tourism spot have opened eateries and hospitality initiatives. They are a welcoming bunch and often travelers out of their curiosity have asked the fishermen and the cultivators their trade secrets and have not been let down.

  • The pandemic crisis brought almost the whole world to a standstill. Nations went into lockdown and everyone was restricted to their homes. Companies relying heavily on an office presence for the completion of their tasks found a way to work from home. But this was temporary as industries had to open to prevent an economic meltdown. The world as we know it can’t function at such a slow pace.

There were a lot of changes. And most importantly, something had to change from our regular way of doing things. As a result, the way we travel changed, the way we communicated modified, and we even altered our way of greeting each other.

Far away from the hustle and bustle of the world, our amazingly beautiful and lavish beachfront property, Havelock Island Beach Resort, is nestled in the remote Andaman Islands. Located in Havelock Island (now known as Swaraj Dweep), our resort follow elevated safety protocols and stringent hygiene standards. Also, we conduct mandatory temperature checks for staff and guests on daily basis in order to ensure your safety and a worry-free stay. In case you are willing to go for a vacation to get rid of all the work stress, then a secluded paradise would be a great destination.

  • Whether you are an adrenaline junkie or a history buff, including Ross Island (renamed to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island) and North Bay Island in your Andaman travel itinerary is a must. Ranging from exciting water sports to witnessing rich history, going on an excursion to these two islands would be an excellent idea.

At North Bay Island, you can try your hand at various adventure water sports whereas at Ross Island, you can look at the ruins of the place that was the administrative capital of the British in the past. When in the Andaman Islands, these two destinations should not be missed at any cost.

    Highlights

A few miles from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ross Island was the administrative headquarter for the Britishers at one time. In 1941, an earthquake rocked this island, and the British left it and settled in Port Blair. The island could never recover from the damage since then. Nature began to take its toll slowly but steadily.

The buildings were engulfed by the banyan trees present there, and this replaced the man-made structures. Making you nostalgic, Ross Island takes you back in time. Some of the old buildings have been turned into bakeries and local stores by the Indian Navy. From here, you can buy souvenirs as memories.

Also known as Coral Island, North Bay Island is counted among the top destinations in Port Blair. The stunning beach and thrilling water activities in its fringing coral reefs are the major highlights here. Lovely corals are spread across a large area here and if you are lucky, then you can spot various fish, lobsters, or even clams on the coral reef. North Bay is a perfect place to relax and enjoy.

A fee of Rs. 30 at Ross Island and Rs. 10 at North Bay Island has to be given after you have reached there. Advance payment is not possible.

    Overview

    ross-island

The ruins of the old buildings constructed by Indian prisoners can still be seen in Ross Island. These are textured by thick roots of peepal trees that take all the visitors back to an era that is long gone yet still remembered. The place gives out a unique vibe that cannot be found anywhere else in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

You can witness magnificent man caves, the old church, and a grim history. The whole experience gets further memorable with its protected forest that is a sanctuary of diverse birds and animals including peacocks and deer. So you are definitely going to have a good time there if you love walking around and enjoy your time in the lap of nature under the shade of tall tropical trees.

If you are a nature lover or marine life enthusiast, then you will be amazed to see the lovely coral reefs that are extremely appealing. If you consider yourself a water baby and ocean is your second home, then North Bay Island should be your next stop. The splendor of coral reefs is sure to take your breath away. This island is a paradise for adventure seekers. Here, you can spend some quality time enjoying the sights of nature while basking under the sun. • Explore the Ruins

    ross-island

There is a lot of history associated with Ross Island, and this is the top reason to visit this extraordinary place. The island is home to some of the oldest British and Japanese structures in India showcasing the lavish life of Britishers after the occupied Andamans. The island also served as the residence of the old Chief Commissioner. All operations in the isles, including the construction of Cellular Jail, were overseen from Ross Island.

The ruins include the following along with many others:

    • Church
    • Secretariat
    • Government House
    • Chief Commissioner's residence
    • Long strips of luxury gardens
    • Swimming pool
    • Grand ballrooms
    • Tennis court
    • Water treatment plants
    • Hospital
    • Printing press, etc.

Looking at these remnants of our unforgettable past will take you back to the penal settlement age and remind you of our struggle for freedom.

    • Attend the light and sound show

This show will take you back to the past by presenting the history of how everything was planned and constructed in the islands. The show majorly showcases the penal settlement period including how Britishers came to the islands, what they focused on constructing, and setting the administration to rule the isles. The luxurious lifestyle of the Chief Commander and his family is also showcased in the show. It will also explain the difficulties faced by the inmate Indian workers who build the jail, only to be thrown in their cells later on. We recommend attending this show if you want to add a pinch of history to your vacation.

    • Visit the sanctuary

Located in the middle of the island, the sanctuary is home to deer and peacocks, which are protected under the Andaman administration. Their population across the Andaman Islands is the highest at Ross Island as these animals are taken care of on a daily basis by a caretaker appointed by the government. They live inside a reserved area filled with large tropical trees including coconuts and palms. Also, they can come out of the reserve to play around with visitors. Feeding or harming animals in any way is strictly prohibited here. If you are an animal lover and want to have a close encounter with them, then you should definitely visit this place.

    • Explore the man caves

These man caves are uniquely interwoven, and these were built all around Ross Island for helping the prominent British officers escape in case of an attack. Now, these caves are abandoned as they have run out of their purpose. At present, they act as a display of outstanding skills, effort and hardships faced by Indian workers in making them.

The crucial offices and constructions throughout the island are connected by theses caves that follow several joint paths. If you decide to explore them, then you will be presented with a very mysterious vibe. In order to ensure safety and swift return and to avoid any complications that may occur, it is highly recommended that you visit there with a guide with you.

    • Visit the pond

There is no specific name and it is called a pond only! It is a huge pond where the water gets collected and stays for long periods. It has turned into green color. Used by the British a long time ago, there are a few small ruins near the pond. Tall trees surround the place from all sides. There is a comfortable little place where you can sit, relax, and appreciate the view. By following the signs in less than fifteen minutes of walking, you can easily reach this point of attraction.

    • Enjoy a calming lunch

There are a number of huts and small sheds built across Ross Island where tourists can take a break and spend some quality time amidst the shade of tall trees and shrubs. There is a diverse variety of bird species present on the island. They chirp and play around the visitors and present a wonderful scene. It is a good place to relax and have your lunch.

The construction of Cellular Jail began in 1896 and was completed in 1906. This unique three-storied structure was the first of its kind in India. Spread as seven spokes of a bicycle wheel, it had 693 cells specially built for solitary confinement of the prisoners. The front of the row of cells faced the back of the other. Thus, there was a complete absence of communication between prisoners housed in different wings.

Near the entrance of the jail, a two-storied building on the left side was built to be used as the hospital. The Martyr's Column now stands on the plinth of this building. At the right side of the main entrance near the compound wall, there are gallows where three persons could be executed simultaneously. There was a separate door in the outer compound wall to carry the corpses.

Cellular Jail imprisoned many freedom revolutionaries of India. Savarkar brothers, Babu Ram Hari, Pandit Parmanand, Ullaskar Dutt, Bhai Parmanand, Prithvi Singh Azad, Trailokyanath Chakravarthy, etc. were incarcerated here among many others. Many charismatic freedom fighters involved in Alipore Bomb case, Lahore Conspiracy Case, Inter-Provincial Conspiracy Case, etc. were also brought to this jail under long terms of imprisonment.
