Andaman Tourism Opens: The Andaman & Nicobar administration has announced that all tourist spots in the South Andaman district will be opened for tourism activities with immediate effect 8 Feb 2022.
The tourists are allowed to visit Baratang/North & Middle Andaman on production of double dose covid certificate/ All other passengers viz. unvaccinated and partially vaccinated passengers (those who have taken only 1S1 dose of COVID vaccine) shall have to produce RT-PCR negative test report

What are the guidelines for testing for tourists coming to Andaman after August 03 2021?
On arrival at Port Blair :
1. The tourists need to carry COVID-19 negative test report from mainland based 1CMR approved lab using Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR). However, the sample for RTPCR test should have been taken within 48 hours prior to starting the journey from the origin station. (For e.g. if the tourist takes a flight from Delhi at 0600 hrs. on 1st September, 2021, the sample for RTPCR test should have been taken not before 0600 hrs. on 30th August, 2021).
2. The tourists/visitors on arrival at Port Blair airport have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 screening with RTPCR test free of cost. Thereafter the tourists/visitors are allowed to move to their respective hotels. However, they will have to be under quarantine at Port Blair in their hotel rooms until the result of RTPCR tests are received. In case of RTPCR positive test results, the tourists/visitors shall remain in
institutional quarantine in hotels notified by the Hoteliers Association in consent with the A&N Administration, on rates as specified or to the designated hospital/ Covid-19 care centre on case-to-case basis.
3. Tourists may also have to undergo random Rapid Antigen Test conducted from time to time on payment basis as prescribed by A8N Administration.
What if the tourists test positive after arriving at the Andaman Islands?
If the tourists tests positive during their stay in the Islands, he/she will need to undergo institutional isolation as per existing health protocols. The
cost of such isolation for govt. facility will be paid by the tourists as fixed by the administration from time to time.
If the patient wants to stay at hotels, he/she can stay in the hotels if all the conditions below are met:
a) Patients are not symptomatic and not more than 60 years old.
b) Request/ undertaking is made by patient in writing.
c)lf allowed by doctors.
Hotels will make necessary arrangements to designate a part of their rooms for institutional isolation for this purpose.

How to reach

Located in the Andaman Sea, the Barren Volcano is the only confirmed active volcano in South Asia. Also, along a chain of volcanoes from Sumatra to Myanmar, this is the only active volcano. It is located nearly 138 kilometers from Port Blair. If it’s a lucky day and if you are also fortunate enough, then you can see the volcano erupting lava and ash. Its first eruption was recorded in 1787.

Cellular Jail is a national memorial of great historical significance for India and touts to be the most prominent tourist spot in Andamans. Built by the Britishers during their colonial rule in India, especially to exile political prisoners, Cellular jail was where the inmates were subject to punishments and atrocities at the hands of the British soldiers.
The construction of the present structure of the cellular jail went on from 1896 to 1906. Nevertheless, the British officers had been using the prison as an exile for prisoners from the late 1950s. Once known as Kala Pani, the jail was used by the British for deporting political prisoners from India.
The cellular jail lies within the town of Port Blair, located at a famous landmark known as Atlanta Point that lies about 7.8 km from the centre of Port Blair via RGT Road. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, formerly known as the Ross Island, used to be the residential headquarters for the British administration in the Andaman Islands. The British brought with them all modern amenities and endowed the island with beautiful buildings and government institutions, giving it the nickname of ‘Paris of the East’.
The island clad with coconut and palm trees all across the island resides in the Archipelago of Andaman. However, it is now mostly deserted with some parts of the island retaining the colonial architecture. Incidentally, it was also the capital of the Archipelago for close to a century, between 1858 to 1941. The island has been named after ‘Sir Daniel Ross,’ a marine surveyor and has attracted a vast number of visitors from across the globe.

The island contains several brick walkways crisscrossing the settlement. There are several small shops with water and food supplies, and ferries run every hour or so from Port Blair. As it is a navy controlled territory, visitors have to sign-in upon entry and exit. The massive wooden front gate at the doorway proudly announces its contribution to the history of the island. The mill was primarily built in 1883 during British colonial rule to meet the need of timber for construction works within the island. The British also used the sawmill to convert vast quantities of wood for catering to the requirements back in their own country.
The Chatham sawmill is within the Chatham Islands, which is at a distance of 11 kilometers from Port Blair. The best way to reach the mill is by hiring a private cab or an auto-rickshaw for your convenience. The sawmill and therefore the forest museum is open on all days except on Sundays and public holidays.

In 1942, during the planet War II, British heavily bombed Andaman island to take control back from Japanese occupation which destroyed multiple parts of the mill. A half hemispherical shaped bomb pit by this bombing remains there. A canopy walk is formed over the bomb pit for the tourists to take a closer look. As one nears the mill, one can see large wooden logs piled across the region.
The mill also features a museum that exhibits wooden crafts made by skilful artisans. There are displays of some flora and fauna inside the museum too. Adorned by the shimmering water and enclosed with dense forests, Cinque island is a land of hidden treasure. With multiple activities and white sandy beaches, there is a vast option for the water babies to enjoy and explore around. Segregated into North Cinque and South Cinque islands, this island is an untouched beauty of Andaman which every nature lover must explore at least once. This well known submerged jumping spot is on the north side of the mainstream Duncan Passage and amidst Rutland and Passage Islands. This island is on the north side of Duncan Passage, at a distance of 26 kilometres from Port Blair. At the same time, it is 3.5 hours away from Wandoor in 2 hours from Chidiya Tapu. Cinque Island is on the south-western shoreline of South Andaman in the Bay of Bengal. The two divisions of the island separate by a sandbar and are a part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.
There is no scheduled ferry service, but Chartered boats are allowed from Port Blair and Wandoor. To avail this facility, one has to contact private boat operators in Port Blair affiliated with the Forest Department to hire a boat.
